What it is

A sworn statement that you're free to marry — recognized abroad.

Also called a Certificate of No Impediment, Nulla Osta, or Constancia de Soltería. Because the U.S. doesn't issue one, you sign it yourself in front of a notary and the Pennsylvania Department of State apostilles it for overseas use.

01

Proof you can marry

A sworn statement that you're single and legally free to marry — the document foreign governments ask for when an American marries abroad.

02

Required overseas

The U.S. issues no Certificate of Single Status, so foreign registries accept your apostilled affidavit instead.

03

Signed under oath

You sign in front of a notary public who confirms your identity and witnesses your signature under penalty of perjury.

04

Apostille = accepted abroad

Pennsylvania attaches an apostille and it's automatically valid in every Hague Convention country — no embassy step.

Common questions

Answers, before you ask.

01

Do I really need an apostille?

+

Yes — for any Hague Convention country. Without it, foreign registries won't accept a U.S. notary's signature.

02

What's the difference between an apostille and authentication?

+

Apostille is for Hague Convention countries (120+). Authentication is the longer chain (state → US Dept of State → embassy) required for non-Hague nations like Canada, UAE, China.

03

Can I sign from outside Pennsylvania?

+

Yes. We offer Remote Online Notarization in all fifty states, plus a mobile notary network for in-person signings nationwide.

04

What ID do I need?

+

An unexpired government-issued photo ID — US passport, driver's license, or state ID. Foreign passports are accepted for RON sessions.

05

How long does it take?

+

2–4 business days from notarization to apostille. RON files are returned digitally; wet-ink originals are shipped or picked up.

06

Do you offer expedited service?

+

Yes — same-day Harrisburg runs are available for time-sensitive weddings or visa appointments. Ask about our 24-hour rush tier.

07

Does my country require translation?

+

Most do. We provide certified Spanish, Italian, Greek, Portuguese, French, and German translations in-house — bound to the apostilled original.

08

Will my translation be accepted by the foreign registry?

+

Yes. All translations are stamped by ATA-certified translators and accompanied by an affidavit of accuracy that meets civil-registry requirements abroad.

09

What if I'm divorced or widowed?

+

Our generator adapts: select your civil status and the template adjusts the sworn statements. Include the docket or death certificate reference when prompted.

10

I've been married twice — does that matter?

+

No. We add a separate recital for each prior marriage with its dissolution decree. Bring decree dockets or court certifications when you sign.

11

Where is my data stored?

+

Generator data lives only in your browser — we never see it. When you engage us for the apostille service, we keep your records encrypted for seven years per PA notary statute.

12

How much does this cost?

+

The template is free, always. Notary + apostille + return shipping starts at $145 in Pennsylvania. Translations and rush service are quoted up front — no surprises.

Ready when you are

One signature away from "I do" abroad.

Draft your template, book a notary, and let Pennsylvania do the rest. We've apostilled documents for marriages in 47 countries — yours is next.
